Sasha Cohen Figure Skating

Alexandra Pauline “Sasha” Cohen (born October 26, 1984) is a U.S. figure skater. She is the 2006 Olympic silver medalist, 2003 Grand Prix Final Champion, and 2006 U.S. Champion.

Everybody thinks so many different things,” Cohen said after the confirmation she would be at nationals generated more buzz than anything the other U.S. women have done. “Some people love me, some people hate me. Some people think I’m going to compete for the next 10 years, some people were ready to write me off five years ago. You can’t listen to what people say. “This is for me because I want to do it, and I want to perform again.”

Sasha is small, pretty, and incredibly flexible. For those of you who were lucky to see her four years ago you may remember her breathtaking skating.

Sasha has been seen as the star of the “Stars on Ice” tour. In May, 2009, she announced she would be coming back to compete. Training for the Olympics and rehearsing for “Stars on Ice” are very different.

She had wanted to be an actress. She had thought she would go to New York University. She has, in fact, been in some television shows and movies. But it seems that part of her life will


Time flies and yes it has been four years since she last competed. So why is she the only woman on our minds at these U.S. Figure Skating Championships?

The United States women’s team is less than stellar. Naturally the engaging Sasha is expected to turn things around. She is still young, isn’t she? Well not in her category of skating. She is six years older than the last two world champions and there are only two U.S. spots for women in the Vancouver Games.

Cohen was born in Westwood, California, a neighborhood in Los Angeles. Her nickname “Sasha” is a Russian nickname for “Alexandra.” Her mother, Galina (née Feldman), is a Jewish immigrant from Ukraine and a former ballet dancer; her father,


Roger Cohen, is a business consultant who is an attorney with Dorsey & Whitney LLP. Sasha graduated from Futures High School in Mission Viejo, California in 2002. Her sister, Natalia (“Natasha”), began college at Barnard College in August 2006
